Have You Ever Ridden an Electric Skateboard in the Rain?
Suddenly it was raining and I was about to go out on my electric skateboard.
I'm sure we've all been in this situation.
So can we still ride our electric skateboards to work at this time?
Electricity and Water
Electric skateboards can ride faster than traditional skateboards even reach a speed of 30km/h.
However, it still has some disadvantage if ridden in rainy days.
There is definitely no water in battery, electric wires, components of the board.
If rains, the rainwater will get into the motor or battery, and the board will shut down or stop working...
Can I ride an electric skateboard in the rain?
The answer: Probably not…
However, the type of rain determines whether you can ride in the rain.
Thunderstorm/Heavy Rain:
Don't ride. Dangerous conditions such as puddles, low visibility and lightning are too dangerous. Don't even consider it.
Regular Moderate Rainstorm:
Still No. You'll get wet and it's just not worth it. If you have no choice, then I guess you have to do it, but only as a last resort.
Light Drizzling:
You can ride in this kind of weather.
It's not ideal and not as much fun as riding on a sunny day, but it is doable. Take extra care when down hills and turning, and maybe slow down a bit.
If you don’t like the feelings of e-skateboarding on the road in the rain. Then do not take your board out at first.
I f you still don’t know whether you can ride well in litter rains. Then ask you some questions.
“Would I ride a motorcycle or bike when it rains?”
The answer can give you some thoughts about riding e-skateboards in the rain.
How about Water Resistant Boards?
Many electric skateboard manufacturers boast about their waterproof boards.
The truth is that there is no such thing as a 100% waterproof board.
Most boards are only waterproof, but they do not support riding in the rain (except on drizzly ground where there is not much water).
The degree of waterproof is marked by a rating (IP).
The IP rating works as follows.
First digit (Ingress Protection) - from 0 to 6
Second digit (moisture protection) - from 0 to 9
The higher each number is, the more protection there is.
Examples: IP35, IP53, IP68, etc...
Most electric skateboards with an IP rating usually end up with IP54, IP55, IP64 and IP65 ratings.
But what do I do if it suddenly rains while I'm riding?
Well, keep an eye on the weather forecast can reduce such situation. But sometimes the weather forecast just isn't accurate enough, so what do we do?
Here are your options:
- If you are close to your destination, try to ridesafely.
- If you are still far away or on your way to work, consider taking shelter in a nearby building and ask a friend or family member who is on the way to pick you up. If not, get your own taxi or take public transport home.
- If you have just left or are close to home, turn around and go back before the rain gets too heavyand think of an alternative way to travel.
